(KMOV) -- Texas Governor Rick Perry told a crowd of Missouri conservatives he is not here to raid Missouri’s businesses in Chesterfield Thursday evening.
“The idea that somehow I would come to steal jobs from Missouri and take them back to Texas,” Perry greeted the crowd.
“The fact is this, if you free up individuals from over-taxation, over-regulation, and over-litigation… nobody in Missouri will go anywhere.”
Perry was invited by the Grow Missouri group which is advocating a legislative override of the Governor Jay Nixon’s veto of a tax cut bill in Jefferson City.
Perry’s radio and television ads calling on Missouri businesses to relocate to Texas this week have also angered some democrats, including Governor Nixon. Perry insists he is friends with Nixon.
“This was never really about Jay,” Perry told News 4.
Perry added that if Missouri lawmakers don’t pass tax reform, then other governors will be looking to lure Missouri businesses away.
