(KMOV) -- There was a rash of car break-ins Tuesday evening at the Chesterfield Sports Complex just north of I-64 at Long Road in Chesterfield.
Police tell News 4 that the thieves used a small device to break the windows on eight cars and stole items like cash, clothing, purses and electronics.
Parks Director Tom McCarthy said car break-ins at the busy ball fields is uncommon, “It’s extremely rare to have this kind of thing happen.”
Police say the thieves took advantage of the noise and action on the ball fields to carry out their crime in the nearby parking lot.
McCarthy said it was “rotten” of the thieves to prey on families having fun, when they’re out having a good time with their kids and, you know, and just doing some good healthy things and criminals take advantage of them.”
Chesterfield Police advise drivers to keep valuables out of sight.
