(KMOV) – Hundreds face layoffs at a local health care facility making it harder for people who need the services to receive it.

News 4 learned up to 160 employees could lose their jobs at St. Louis Connect Care which is a facility meant to help those who no insurance.

The president of the company said the state didn’t fund the expansion of Medicaid so it has to cut its services.

Residents come to St. Louis Connect Care from both the city and county because of the wide-range of services they offer.

Connect Care even provides transportation but that too could soon be cut.

“These kinds of services are needed for those people who can’t afford it. It's hard enough having an illness but with no insurance it’s a death sentence and we need places like this,” said Barbara Black.

Connect Care will be cutting services such as dermatology, orthopedics and cardiology. It will keep the urgent care center open which the organization believes is the most important service it can provide.
