(KMOV) – After a gun was found in a Hazelwood elementary school, News 4 dug into the reports which showed this is not the first time guns were discovered in the district.

The Hazelwood School District has not been a stranger to weapons and bullets being found within the walls of their schools. According to the state’s education website, it shows Hazelwood had 63 incidents involving weapons in the past three years.

Last October, a fifth-grader walked into Keeven Elementary School with a gun in his backpack. Police say the gun was not loaded but there was a magazine with bullets recovered in the school.

In December, a bullet was located on the floor of Hazelwood West Middle School which was brought to campus by a student.

A Hazelwood East custodian was found with guns in his vehicle on the high school’s parking lot in January.

Most recently, a student stabbed another student at Hazelwood Central High School in March.  Both Students said they were playing around but the knives were also not supposed to be on the campus.

Last year alone, there were 660 cases involving weapons in Missouri public schools.
