(KMOV) – A Brooklyn, Ill massage parlor police say harbored sex, prostitution and a list of other crimes was raided and shut down Wednesday.
News 4 was given exclusive access as officers collected evidence from the depths of the underground hole.
Inside S&L Rub Massage Parlor, there were several rooms with beds and Jacuzzi style tubs. Authorities say they advertise themselves as a massage parlor, but what was happening inside these walls was much more, prostitution and possibly human trafficking.
Ladies underwear, sex toys and adult magazines filled those rooms.
“This type of activity attracts not only the prostitution that we are talking about, but also drugs, it attracts violence. There has been a history of violence on this very block right here,” said Chief Tony Tomlinson.
Earlier this year, undercover agents went inside S&L Rub where court documents say they were first told a half-hour massage would be $60 but “tips” were appreciated.
It wasn’t long before women inside began negotiating prices to perform sex acts. Prostitution charges were filed as a result.
“We know that there had been ongoing activity here and we were able to get enough evidence to issue those charges,” Chief Tomlinson.
Authorities shut the business down after receiving a court order on Wednesday and the sheriff’s department took the place over ending all activity from taking place at the location.
Chief Tomlinson said “I think it’s really important that the message is out there that we are going to work together, we can’t do this as our own department, Brooklyn by itself.”
Officers took TVs and other electronic devices from inside the property. Those items will be sold.
“It’s just sad that someone was actually in there all the time,” said Tomlinson.
