(KMOV) – A former Fairview Heights clerk is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the city.
Patricia Ostendorf was charged with theft and official misconduct after she allegedly stole impound fees from the city.
Ostendorf, a former employee of the police department, is alleged to have taken anywhere from $10,000 to $100,000 between May and June of 2013. The charges came after a city audit revealed money was missing.
Because she was a city employee, Illinois State Police officers were brought in to investigate.
An investigation revealed Ostendorf, who was reportedly fired in August, received impound fees but never deposited them in the city accounts.
Police say she surrendered to authorities Monday, posted bond, and was released.
