(Football STL) -- It was hard to tell which squad actually looked like a playoff team. The Rams played perhaps their most complete game of the season against New Orleans. The Rams now have 2 games left, with the Bucs and Seahawks remaining on their schedule. At 6-8, a .500 finish is still possible
“This was a great team win,” said auarterback Kellen Clemens. “It really was. Offensively it starts with the offensive line, and they played great. It was a great win across the board. I’m really, really happy for our guys.”
The Saints needed a victory over the Rams on Sunday to clinch a postseason position, but the Rams made sure that the Saints went back to the Bayou empty handed. The Rams grabbed a 24-3 lead at half, and hung on for a 27-16 win. Is it possible that the Rams could finish off this season at 8-8? If the Rams do finish at .500, what would it accomplish?
“You expect to be the underdogs against the New Orleans Saints when you have the record we had” said Clemens. “ We understand that. I think more importantly is what this team has shown, such a drive to continue to work. There’s a handful of teams right now that aren’t going to the playoffs, and unfortunately we’re one of them, but I guarantee there’s no other team in that group that is working as hard as we are and is still having as much fun as we’re having. That comes from the leadership that we have at the top with Coach (Jeff) Fisher, and it trickles all the way down, and we’re still able to go out in week 15 and put together a good, solid game and get a win against a very good opponent that’s probably going to go pretty deep into the playoffs.”
Rams fans had visions of playoffs for this season, especially after their improvement last season. Perhaps an 8-8 season with an injured Sam Bradford on the sidelines would be a nice consolation prize.
The Rams recovering an onside kick to set up a field goal in the first quarter clearly shows that Fisher and company has nothing to lose.
“Regardless of what happens on Sundays, they’re going to come back the next week and work and play and have fun and play hard, “said Fisher.”Everybody last night felt like we had a chance to win this game.”
