Supporters of the suspended Ferguson-Florissant school superintendent are asking the elected officials who ordered that temporary ouster to instead step down.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that school board members in the north St. Louis County district heard that request Wednesday night from the Citizens’ Task Force on Excellence in Education.

The board did not publicly discuss superintendent Art McCoy’s suspension at the meeting, which was held at a high school gym to accommodate a large crowd.

McCoy has been on paid administrative leave since early November. The reasons behind his removal remain unclear.

The district has subsequently reported irregularities in student attendance reports provided to the state, a mistake that could cost the district $80,000. McCoy has denied making any improper changes or ordering employees to do so.
