Obama takes "selfie" with world leaders at Mandela service

(CBS News) --  President Obama took a moment during Tuesday’s memorial service for the late Nelson Mandela to pose in a “selfie” with British Prime Minister David Cameron and Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt.

Mr. Obama was one of dozens of foreign leaders who attended the service at FNB Stadium in the Soweto area of Johannesburg, South Africa. Speaking before a crowd of thousands there to pay tribute to the deceased South African leader, Mr. Obama called Mandela “a giant of history who moved the nation toward justice and, in the process, moved billions around the world.”

The U.S. president’s selfie with Cameron and Thorning-Schmidt quickly made its way onto a popular Tumblr page, Selfies at Funerals.

It’s unclear whose phone the world leaders were using to take the picture—while Mr. Obama is a self-professed fan of smartphones, he noted recently that he’s “not allowed for security reasons to have an iPhone.” He did, however, fight to keep a high-security BlackBerry after his 2008 election.

The president’s daughters Sasha and Malia “spend a lot of time” on their iPhones, the president also said recently. The two girls took a playful selfie during the 2013 inaugural parade.
