(KMOV.com) -- A half a million dollars stolen and the alleged perpetrator is in a position of power at a local business.
Prosecutors in St. Charles said the suspect had crafted a scheme to slide the businesses cash into his own pocket. Prosecutors said the suspect stole an alleged $500,000.
“It’s just unbelievable to me,” said Jessica Meeks, a patient at the St. Charles Our Urgent Care.
Patients at this urgent care facility were shocked to learn of an alleged theft going on at three of these business locations in St. Charles County.
“I think it’s kind of crazy considering this is people’s money that has been provided to this place,” said Meeks.
Investigators said Operations Director for the urgent care facilities, Kevin Guerra, kept cash he should have deposited into the business’ bank.
“We believe that he not only knew the system, he created it,” said St. Charles Prosecutor Tim Lohmar, “So it was virtually undetectable.”
Lohmar said only after an audit did the business discover the thefts. White collar crime of this magnitude, Lohmar said, is rare.
“That’s an extraordinarily high amount,” Lohmar said.
A representative for the owners at the Wentzville location said they were working to get answers about the situation.
Guerra is being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond, which is the exact amount he is suspected of taking.
