(BaseballStL) – The Cardinals pick up their action this week on the West Coast by taking on the sub-par San Diego Padres, and the Redbirds need to take full advantage prior to their weekend series.
The Padres at 46-59 and 12.5 games back of the Dodgers aren’t an intimidating team and the Cardinals could use a series sweep as the first place Milwaukee Brewers head to Busch Stadium on Friday.
Lance Lynn gets the first call for the Cards, toeing the rubber against Tyson Ross. Ross has a ton of strike-outs, with 143 and a 1.16 WHIP. His win-loss record isn’t impressive at 9-10, but he has given the Padres 16 quality starts. They’ve just been unable to convert on 7 of those starts.
Lynn at 11-7 trails Adam Wainwright for the Cardinals lead in wins and strike outs. The Redbirds’ workhorse hasn’t faced the Padres much, in fact, Tuesday’s start is his first ever at Petco Park.
Uncle Charlie joins Twitter
After living in a social media hole, Cardinals’ ace Adam Wainwright has finally joined the Twitter-verse, @UncleCharlie50. He has only one official tweet thus far, asking followers what his first tweet should be, but considering the humor that comes from the right-hander he should make for a great Twitter user.
Sitting here with my wife and texting my friends trying to come up with a legendary first tweet. Any suggestions?— Adam Wainwright (@UncleCharlie50) July 29, 2014
