St. Louis ranks among unhappiest metropolitan areas

(KMOV) – St. Louis ranks among the unhappiest metropolitan areas in new research released on Wednesday.

The US National Bureau of Economic Research, along with the University of British Columbia’s Vancouver School of Economics, asked participants about their satisfaction with life. Researchers used their responses to indicate respondent’s happiness levels and compile the list.

The list only takes into account metropolitan areas with a population of at least one million as of 2010.

The happiest metropolitan area is Richmond-Petersburg, Va. While the unhappiest area is New York, NY.

St. Louis ranks seventh in the list of unhappiest metropolitan areas.
