Madison County Sheriff's deputy injured during arrest in Godfrey

(KMOV) -- An Alton man faces charges after allegedly resisting arrest and injuring a sheriff’s deputy in Godfrey.
The incident occurred on Saturday around 11:00 a.m. in the 3000 block of Godfrey Road when the deputy witnessed a hand-to-hand transaction between two men in an area known for drug activity.
The deputy walked toward the men who then fled the scene. Police say the deputy caught Eric L. Lacey, 45, and sustained a non-life threatening injury to his elbow in the struggle. Lacey was not injured.
The other suspect escaped arrest. Police say they found a small package of cocaine near the area.
