(KMOV) -- Thirty-nine Chihuahuas will be transported to the Human Society of Missouri headquarters Tuesday after they were rescued in Carter County.
The Humane Society of Missouri Animal Cruelty Task Force rescued the Chihuahuas and other small mixed-breed dogs from their owner.
According to a news release, an animal cruelty investigator visited the property and found the owner putting all of the dogs into one crate with intent to leave them by the side of the highway. The owner voluntarily surrendered the dogs.
Some of the dogs are suffering from hair loss and external parasites. All of the dogs will be examined.
The Humane Society of Missouri is requesting donations of toys, bed sheets and towels be brought to the Humane Society of Missouri’s St. Louis City Adoption Center at 1201 Macklind Avenue.
The Humane Society of Missouri and the Carter County Sheriff’s Office will continue to investigate this case.
