St. Louis, Mo. (KMOV) – The St. Louis zoo will publicly debut a zebra foal and four other baby animal species on Wednesday.
The zoo announced that a Grevy’s zebra foal named Makena was born on June 22. Makena weighed 120 pounds at birth and is the daughter of 11-year-old Tiombe and Gao.
Grevy’s zebra have the narrowest body stripes and are the largest of all zebra’s. Washington University and the St. Louis Zoo are observing the zebra family as part of an on-going behavior study which will provide valuable data for researchers in the wild.
The St. Louis zoo also announced the birth of a female lesser kudu, a female lowland nyala, a female addax and a male addax. Two red kangaroo joeys are also currently making their way out and starting to explore their habitat after being born in December.
