(KMOV) – The city is putting new rules into effect concerning downtown carriage rides.
This comes after concerns regarding the condition of horses used for carriage rides. St. Louis Health Director Pamela Walker is trying to ban horse carriage rides downtown after she said she saw a horse having a heat stroke near the City Museum Saturday night.
Walker said carriage operators are not allowed to work the horses before 7 p.m. on hot days, and said records proved that the horse she saw was overworked.
Walker is requiring that all horses must stop being worked when the heat index hits 100 degrees.
Walker is also requiring the medical history of “Moose” the horse, whose condition helped bring this issue to her attention, be submitted to the city.
