Robbery suspect charged in accomplice's death

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) -- Southern Illinois prosecutors have charged a 26-year-old robbery suspect with murder after a store clerk shot and killed one of his alleged accomplices.

Prosecutors say Michael Hunter of East St. Louis and 26-year-old Larando King were trying to rob the Quality Food Mart early Thursday.

The clerk of the store opened fire, striking King. St. Clair County State's Attorney Robert Haida says the clerk won't be charged.

Hunter is charged with first-degree murder. He's being held on $1 million bond. It wasn't immediately clear whether he has an attorney.

Illinois law allows suspects to be charged with murder if anyone dies during a felony.

Police say several other suspects were involved with the attempted robbery. No other charges have been filed.
