The prosecutor in Saint Louis County charged 17 year old Brandon Davis with the attempted robbery and killing of 31 year old Duane Woodson. Woodson's live-in girlfriend was also shot, but she survived.
Around 9 p.m. on Monday, police say Davis knocked on Woodson's door and was let in. Detectives say Davis was armed with a shotgun and used it to shoot and kill Woodson. Woodson's girlfriend was shot and injured, but managed to run outside and call police.
Lt. Todd Larkin, who is over the Crimes Against Persons Department, said that Davis likely knew Woodson from the neighborhood, but it's not yet clear to investigators if the two had any other previous contact.
Police said the motive was robbery. Davis faces charges for the murder, assault, attempted robbery, and burglary. He is also charged with four counts of Armed Criminal Action.
Two children, ages one and four, were in the home when the shooting happened. The kids were not hurt. Earlier this week, police said they were staying with a grandparent. Their mother has been released from the hospital, according to police.
I asked whether Brandon Davis has a criminal history, but he just turned 17 and his juvenile record is unavailable.
