University of Missouri defeated University of Tennessee-Martin 83-68 in the first regular season game for the Tigers (1-0). The bad news is senior guard J.T. Tiller left the game early in the second half with an apparent right foot injury and did not return. He left the game with 6 points. We don't know his status as of now, but the Tigers can only hope the injury is minor since they will need his leadership and defense this season. Tiller is a team captain this season and was the Big 12 Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2009.
Laurence Bowers led the team in scoring with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Mizzou shot 44 percent from the field with 21 turnovers, 8 blocks and 14 steals. The Tigers extended their non-conference home win streak to 38, continuing the school record. Mizzou should be happy with their performance for the first game of the season, but the status of Tiller clouds this victory a bit.
