(KMOV)-- Two people are charged in the death of a Jefferson County man first reported missing back in August.
Chester Scherer’s body was found in rural Desoto.
Authorities told News 4 they all knew each other and were at the same party in Desoto the night Scherer disappeared.
Days after his disappearance, the SUV he was last seen in was found burned in St. Louis. Then investigators found his body a few weeks later in a ravine off a roadway 10 to 15 miles from where the party was.
Kenneth Ritrovato, Jr. is charged with 1st degree murder and is in federal custody in another state on unrelated charges. Authorities believe Ritrovato stabbed Scherer to death.
Angela Parke, who was also at the party that night, is charged with tampering with physical evidence. She is currently held at the Jefferson County jail on a $7,500 cash bond.
While investigators believe they have their killer, the motive is still unclear.
"Evidently there was an ongoing conflict between Mr. Scherer and Mr. Ritrovato sometime during the party we believe they went off, separated from the party and it's our opinion that's where the homicide took place,” said Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer.
According to court records, investigators found a bloody knife near where they found the victim's body and the crime lab confirmed it was the victim's blood. The suspect’s father also told authorities he saw his son washing a lot of blood off his Dodge Durango hours after the alleged murder.
Sheriff Boyer told News 4 this investigation is not over. There could be more charges coming down against more people in this case.
