EAST ST. LOUIS, Illinois (KMOV.com) -- Corporate donations will pay for increased police patrol in East St. Louis during the weekends, Mayor Alvin Parks announced Friday.
“The City of East St. Louis is pleased to announce that there will be a special police detail safeguarding its residents, businesses, and visitors on Friday and Saturday nights,” Parks said in a statement.
In the statement, Parks said the city is doing whatever it can create a safe environment.
“The city and its corporate citizens are putting in place this special detail to preserve and protect the city as a whole,” said Parks. “The city and its businesses welcome all those who want to enjoy themselves responsibly.”
The city laid off seven employees earlier this week, leaving police officers without support staff.
