Roger Goodell threw down the hammer; are you surprised? I'm not, and I'm glad he did what he did.
I wouldn’t be shocked if Gregg Williams doesn't return to the NFL for two years, maybe more. What he did was inexcusable, it wasn’t an accident, and the penalty to me is perfectly fine.
Call me naive, or whatever, but I’m shocked that someone would even do this. And don’t just fault Williams, the players who participated in this are even worse. Whatever happened to having a certain amount of respect for your colleague? These players are millionaires, at least most, and to want $1,500 or a few thousand bucks for significantly hurting someone is just terrible.
For all who think the punishment is too harsh for all those involved, I don’t understand. Roger Goodell had to make a major statement. Why, because if this is going on in other organizations, and I’m not saying it is, but after hearing the news of Williams and company, most likely other teams will stop the bounties ASAP.
