(KMOV) -- St. Patrick's Day was not the only event drawing crowds, and tourist dollars, into St. Louis this past weekend.
The 2012 NCAA Wrestling Championships attracted an estimated 18,000 wrestling fans and $14.7 million in economic impact, according to the St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association (RCGA).
Visiting fans contributed an estimated $7.6 million in direct spending, and an additional $7.1 million in indirect impact, said Ruth Sergenian, RCGA chief economist.
RCGA officials also noted the NCAA has been pleased with St. Louis' performance as host city for the wrestling event.
The championships ran from Thursday to Saturday evening at the Scottrade Center.
