(KMOV) -- Two suspects and a police officer were taken to a hospital following an officer involved shooting late Thursday night in East St. Louis, Illinois.
According to reports, the shooting happened around 9:45 p.m. near the intersection of 36th Street and Caseyville Avenue.
It was there, authorities said, three officers conducted a traffic stop. As the officers approached the vehicle they saw two people inside. Suddenly, the driver took off at a high rate of speed, striking one of the officers with the vehicle. Two officers then drew their weapons and started firing.
During the shooting, the passenger was struck and the driver stopped the car. The passenger was taken to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The officers involved in the shooting were an FBI Agent, a MEGSI (Metropolitan Enforcement Group of Southwestern Illinois) inspector with the Illinois State Police and an Illinois State Police Sergeant. All the officers are assigned to Operation WAVE (Working Against Violent Elements).
The MEGSI inspector and both suspects were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Both the MEGSI Inspector and driver of the offending vehicle were treated and released. The driver is currently in custody at the St. Clair County Jail.
A weapon was recovered from inside the suspect's vehicle. Illinois State Police and the FBI continue to investigate the shooting.
