ALTON, Illinois (KMOV) -- St. Anthony’s hospital in Alton was put on lockdown after a man got into an altercation with the head of security on Thursday.
Hospital officials said Kory Bender, 20, was asked to leave the hospital room around 9 a.m. after a doctor ordered an emergency medical procedure for his girlfriend, who was about to give birth.
Police said when Bender refused to leave, the hospital called the head of security. That’s when Bender started punching and pushing the officer.
Authorities said security was eventually able to apprehend Bender. Alton police were called to the scene and took him into custody.
He was later charged with batter and trespassing, both misdemeanors.
Bender was released from jail about an hour later so he could go see his newborn daughter.
No other injuries were reported.
