WASHINGTON COUNTY, Missouri – Authorities say several students were injured after being trapped inside an overturned school bus in southern Washington County Tuesday afternoon.

District officials said the bus carrying students in the Valley R-6 School District was traveling in Belgrade near the intersection of State Highway C and State Highway BB shortly after 3 p.m. when the accident occurred.

Mal Gum, administrator for the Washington County Ambulance District, says three people were flown to a St. Louis hospital, but he wasn’t sure if they were all children.

Officials said 12 students were transported by ground to Washington County Hospital. Their injuries ranged from minor lacerations to bone fractures.

No injuries are considered life-threatening.

It’s not known how many people were onboard the bus.

Officials said there are about 400 students in the small school district.

It wasn’t immediately clear if any other vehicles were involved.
