Protesters disrupt Rumsfeld appearance in Missouri

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (AP) -- A 10-minute protest disrupted an appearance by former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld at the Truman Library and Museum in Independence.

Rumsfeld spoke Friday afternoon in the library's auditorium as part of a book tour for his memoir, "Known and Unknown." The Independence Examiner reports that protesters called the former defense secretary a "war criminal" after the moderator asked his first question, and refused to leave.

Truman Library security officials removed the protesters from the auditorium.

The 90-minute appearance was free and open to the public.

Rumsfeld spoke earlier Friday to officers at the Army's Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.
