(KMOV) -- Something is happening at the Steinberg Skating Rink in Forest Park this weekend that has never happened before.
On February 25th and 26th the rink will host an event named the "Steinberg Winter Classic." It's a three-on-three hockey tournament. Joe Fresta is the man who came up with the idea. He said all the money raised from the tournament will go to the Cancer Car Foundation.
Fresta said he got the idea from the NHL's Winter Classic where teams play in outdoor stadiums. Fresta said he has played hockey most of his life and is a two-time cancer survivor. He said, "I thought, 'why don't we marry the two and put together an outdoor tournament in beautiful Steinberg rink?'"
It will be old-time hockey. A total of 40 teams will be taking part in the tournament. The games start at 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday and will last until 9 p.m. both nights. There will also be ice carvings and a whole Winter carnival taking place. The best part is, it's all FREE.
