(KMOV) -- Police are searching for a man who they arrested during a traffic stop and then managed to escape from the police station where he was being held. He is considered armed and dangerous.
According to authorities, Billy Rabun escaped after being arrested by Wellston Police sometime around 1:00 a.m. Friday. Raben ran out the front door when police uncuffed for his one phone call.
Rabun is 5' 10", about 210 pounds, and dark complected; he was headed to prison for assault and parole violation. He's wanted for a felony in St. Louis County. Rabun left the police station unarmed but police are considering him armed and dangerous. Police say he has friends in the area and have every reason to believe he's armed now.
He was last seen wearing khaki style pants, a light blue shirt and checkered shoes. Police last saw him heading south from the Wellston police station on Evergreen.
Rabun told authorities he's the brother of a man killed about a week ago in Pagedale and he planned to avenge his brother's death but that victim's sister says that's not true. Police are anticipating Rabun to show up at that victim's funeral, today in Normandy, armed.
During the search the police K-9 trail went cold about a half mile from the police station. They couldn't get the county helicopter up in the air today because of the wind. Authorities continue to search for him.
Police say if you see Rabun do not confront him, just call 911.
