ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Daytime house burglaries are the biggest crime trend now due to high unemployment and foreclosure rates in north St. Louis County, according to police.
As a result of the recent burglaries, police are “hot spot policing” and getting results. “Hot spot policing” is a strategy in which officers analyze data and determine where the most break-ins occur.
The strategy has instantly produced results at the Countryside Apartments where 12 burglaries happened in January. Only one burglary has occurred in February.
Captain Troy Doyle says that burglaries are down more than twenty percent from February 2011.
