Cards broadcaster working to beat his addiction

(Baseball StL)-- Cardinals tv broadcaster Dan McLaughlin was with us on the radio this morning and talked openly about his battle with alcoholism. McLaughlin says he's very grateful the Cardinals stuck with him after his second arrest for drunk driving.
He's made major changes in his life. He's working out on a regular basis now and has lost 80 pounds. He regularly attends AA meetings and believes he'll be able to beat his addiction.
In the past McLaughlin has accepted a lot of off season assignments calling college basketball games and other events, but says his current plans are to just stick with doing Cardinals games. McLaughlin grew up in south St. Louis and says calling Cardinals baseball was always his dream job, and now wants to devote all his professional time to the Cardinals, and his personal time to his wife and four children.

McLaughlin has been very open about dealing with his problems, and said spending a night in jail may have been the best thing that ever happened to him. That wake up call has helped him change and his life.
