Two suspects shot during police chase near Rolla

Rolla, Mo. (KMOV) – Two suspects are injured during a police chase and shooting on Thursday evening near Rolla.
 
The incident began when a Rolla police officer made a traffic stop on Interstate 44 around 5 p.m.  The driver then took off as the officer approached the vehicle.  Police say multiple patrol cars were involved in the chase as it weaved through Phelps County roads.  A patrol car was damaged during the chase.
 
Officers eventually lost sight of the vehicle which was later spotted by a tip from a citizen in a subdivision.  Police say the suspect then attempted to run over an officer as they approached the vehicle for a second time.  A Phelps County deputy then opened fire at the vehicle and struck two occupants inside it. 
 
The driver then struck a patrol car and continued to drive away.  The chase came to an end when the suspect’s vehicle crashed into a trailer in Hy Point Trailer Park near Highway V.  Police tell News 4 that speeds reached near 120 miles per hour during the chase.  Police also say that the suspects had more than a pound of marijuana in the vehicle.
 
One suspect was flown to an area hospital with a gunshot wound and another was taken by ambulance for his gunshot wound, both are excepted to survive.  The suspects are male adults and their names have not been released at this time.
