CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) -- It looks like the flu is hitting hard in Cape Girardeau.
The Southeast Missourian reports that 81 students and five teachers from Cape Girardeau Central High School were sent home with flu-like symptoms on Wednesday. Overall, 158 of the school's 1,150 students were out sick.
Principal Mike Cowan says that in his 11 years as principal he couldn't recall so many students sent home in one day.
So far, the outbreak appears limited to Central High School. Principals in other buildings in the district did not report similar sicknesses.
