OKAWVILLE, Il. (KMOV) – Residents in southern Illinois want something done about the “horrific” road leading to their houses.
The residents say the condition of Cord Road just outside Okawville, Illinois makes them worry that a fire truck or ambulance wouldn’t be able to reach them if needed.
Residents also say that the road is in such terrible shape that the mail carrier stopped driving down it to deliver the mail four years ago and school buses stopped coming to the area even longer than that.
“Since it is a private road, if we went and fixed it then we are obligated to fix all the other private roads and by law we are not allowed to go on a private road,” Okawville Township Supervisor Wayland Jasper said.
The dispute has reportedly been going for decades with the township insisting the road is not their problem and residents insist that it is up to the local government to do fix the problematic road.
