(KMOV) -- A one-car accident just north of Red Bud, Illinois city limits leaves two dead and two others hospitalized late Tuesday night.
Illinois State Police, Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, and Red Bud fire crews were called to the scene of the accident on Route 159 just before 10 p.m.
Authorities say a white car was travelling southbound on IL-159 when it left the roadway and struck a utility pole before coming to a stop against a tree. Witnesses told authorities that the vehicle had been traveling at a high rate of speed
Curtis Owen, 24, and John Macklin, 28, were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers, Mark Marlow, 21, and Tress Korves, 20, were taken to nearby hospitals with serious injuries.
