HENNEPIN, Ill. (AP) -- Authorities say an elderly man shot his wife to death and then killed himself in their central Illinois home.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Department says 73-year-old James Price and 83-year-old Darlene Price were found dead Sunday evening.
A news release from Sheriff Kevin Doyle's office says Darlene Price was shot once by her husband, who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The (Peoria) Journal Star reports James Price was a retired ironworker. He received a Citizen of Year Award in 2008 for his volunteer work.
The Illinois State Police assisted with the investigation. The Putnam County death investigator pronounced the couple dead at the scene.
Hennepin is about 45 miles north of Peoria.
