ALORTON, Ill. (AP) -- The mayor of a southwestern Illinois village has resigned as federal investigators probe what he has said involves questions about the community's tax increment financing.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that Randy McCallum's resignation Monday was accepted by the village board, which replaced him with trustee Trymella Johnson.

McCallum hasn't been charged with any crime in connection with the federal probe that included a January raid of his home and the village hall.

McCallum says he stepped down as mayor of the St. Clair County community because his outside commitments are so great, and that he doesn't have the time or energy to devote to the mayor's job.
