Second suspect in deputy shooting pleads guilty

EDWARDSVILLE - A man who underwent mental treatment after firing an

assault rifle at a Madison County deputy during a high-speed chase

pleaded guilty Thursday to attempted first-degree murder.

Michael J. Gilb, 20, of Amelia, Ohio, pleaded guilty in exchange for

a prosecution agreement to drop several other charges.

The normal sentencing range would be between six and 30 years. The

prosecution agreed to seek a sentence of between 15 and 30 years.

"He's going away for a long time," Assistant State's Attorney Neil

Schroeder said after Thursday's hearing.
