CHICAGO (AP) -- Illinois state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias says in order to enact reforms in health care and the economy, the country needs to "embrace change."
Giannoulias made the remarks as he announced his candidacy today for President Barack Obama's old Senate seat.
The first-term Democrat promised supporters at a downtown Chicago hotel that he would work for reform in Washington if elected. A second event was scheduled for later in the day in Springfield.
Five-term Republican Congressman Mark Kirk announced last week that he's also running for the seat.
Giannoulias says Kirk represents "the same old Washington way."
Sen. Roland Burris, who now holds the seat, has announced he won't run for a full term next year because of fund-raising problems.
