Reports: Pinkel signs $2.5m deal to stay at Mizzou

(KMOV) -- According to Pat Forde of ESPN.com, the University of Missouri and its football coach Gary Pinkel, have agreed in principle to a new, lucrative contract extension that will make him one of the highest-paid coaches in the country, according to sources.

"Basically, he'll be able to end his career at Missouri," a source close to the situation said.

The length of the deal in unknown, but the extension will include a hefty raise that will give Pinkel $2.5 million annually.

The extension all but erases Pinkel's name from the list of possible candidates to replace Ty Willingham at Washington. Pinkel's name had been mentioned for the job at Washington, where served under long-time Huskies coach Don James.

Although Pinkel is staying, a source close to the program said some of his longtime staff members are being eyed for a number of coach openings. According to the source, offensive coordinator Dave Christiansen is a candidate for the head coach job at New Mexico, and defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus might be looked at for openings as well.
