Mizzou's Chase Coffman to undergo foot surgery

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) -- All-American tight end will undergo surgery next week on his injured left foot.

His father, Paul Coffman, told The Kansas City Star that doctors will install a screw Tuesday into the fifth metatarsal bone to help the injury "heal faster and ensure to the NFL scouts that it won't happen again."

Coffman is the most prolific tight end in NCAA history and figures to be the second player to be drafted after a stellar four-year career.

He hurt his foot on the final play of overtime in the Tigers' 30-23 Alamo Bowl victory over Northwestern.

He is expected to be well enough to participate in the NFL combine in February and Missouri's pro days in March.
