AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Brandon Workman pitched seven scoreless innings to answer a six-hit shutout by Missouri's Kyle Gibson, leading the Longhorns to a 5-0 victory and a doubleheader split with the Tigers on Saturday.
Gibson (3-1) struck out 11 to carry Missouri to a 2-0 victory in the first game of the doubleheader, which was the Big 12 opener for both teams. The Tigers scored both runs in the second inning on RBI singles from Greg Folgia and Conner Mach.
Chance Ruffin (3-1) was the hard-luck loser for Texas in the opener, allowing five hits over 8 1/3 innings.
Workman held Missouri (8-9, 1-1 Big 12) to two hits and struck out seven.
Brandon Belt had two RBIs for Texas (13-2, 1-1), including a groundout that scored Travis Tucker for a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Ian Berger (1-2) took the loss, allowing four hits and four earned runs in five innings.
