Madison County will use a surge of $468,000 in federal stimulus money for the weatherization of homes for low-income families throughout the county.
The infusion will allow the county to buy eight pickup trucks - tripling the current fleet of four - and it opens the possibility that the county might hire back a few of the 23 county workers targeted for layoffs.
"If there are openings there - and in other places - we would look into that," Madison County Chairman Alan Dunstan said Tuesday. "The last thing we want to do is see people get laid off."
