MU swimmer qualifies for World Championships

Missouri junior swimmer Lauren Lavigna became the Tigers' first qualifier to the World Swimming Championships after finishing second in the 200-meter backstroke at the Canadian trials last week in Montreal.

Lavigna, from Vancouver, B.C., Canada, is Missouri's school record holder and a 2009 NCAA qualifier in the 200 backstroke. She swam a 2:12.38 at the trials to cut 1.5 seconds off her personal best and qualify for the World Championships, July 31, in Rome.
