BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- St. Clair County authorities say a man who drew a suspended sentence in a Baltimore rape case six years ago will go on trial next month in the 2006 slaying of a Southwestern Illinois College student.
Circuit Court Judge Milton Wharton has told the attorney for 29-year-old Emmett Lindsey to be prepared for trial Aug. 17.
The victim, 18-year-old Amy Bracht, was found Nov. 29 slumped over her bathtub. She had been strangled. Police said Lindsey became a suspect after they interviewed more than 40 people familiar with the case.
Police said Lindsey was convicted of rape in Maryland when he was 15 years old, and was arrested again in the March 2002 rapes of two women in Baltimore. He pleaded guilty to assault and drew a suspended sentence.
