A few years ago, a student could have gotten by without football tickets and saved the money for when basketball season came around. No more! Illinois has a young, exciting football team led by a coach with a reputation for being a workaholic and a great recruiter of talent. Get used to hearing the names , Arrelious Benn, Martez Wilson, Brit Miller and Vontae Davis.
Football season begins right when school starts and you don't want to be the only person in the dorms on Saturdays when everyone else is at Memorial Stadium.
Coming off a season in which the Illini made an appearance in the Rose Bowl, hype surrounding the team is at an all-time high (at least since I've been here). Of course, along with that comes exceptionally high demand for season tickets and the District of Intercollegiate Athletics recommends you get tickets soon before they sell out.
"We recommend you get your tickets as soon as possible," said Steve Landrus, assistant athletic ticketmanager. "We are currently taking orders by telephone. New students usually get tickets through the ticket office when they come to register. Other students wait to get back to campus. But this year we expect sales to increase. Our sales are ahead of schedule."
