(KMOV) -- A Missouri state senator says there is now evidence that another federal agency was looking for gun permit records on Missouri residents.
State Senator Kurt Schaefer, ® from Columbia, says the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms also wanted those records of concealed carry permit holders from the state Department of Revenue.
“It looks to me like it’s to compile a list of gun owners in the state of Missouri, which is a violation of state law and federal law as well,” Schaefer told News 4.
Earlier today Governor Jay Nixon announced the Department of Revenue will no longer be scanning or retaining concealed carry permit certificates. On Monday, the department’s director, Brian Long, resigned.
Schaefer is still pushing for more answers in Jefferson City.
“It’s none of the federal government’s business under the second amendment or the Missouri constitution who owns a weapon or who does not,” Schaefer said.
