(KMOV.com) -- Cities across the United States are on high alert in light of Monday’s tragedy at the Boston Marathon.
Two large race organizers in St. Louis, Go! St. Louis and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, both responded to Monday’s events
Just two weekends ago thousands lined the streets of downtown St. Louis to run the Go! St. Louis Marathon.
Go! St. Louis sent a statement expressing the organization’s sorrow at the day’s events.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic events at today’s Boston Marathon, a world-class event that showcases sportsmanship and athleticism,” the statement read. “Our thoughts are with the many people that were injured and frightened today. As part of the racing community our top priority is to provide safe, fun events for everyone to enjoy.”
They also said they understand the tremendous effort it takes to put on marathons.
“We know the hard work that goes into ensuring safe events for participants and spectators. It takes a tremendous collaboration between city officials, emergency personnel, law enforcement, security personnel and volunteers.”
The Go! statement ended by commending the city of Boston’s emergency responders, police and volunteers on keeping a terrible situation from getting worse.
