(BaseballStL) -- Matt Holliday extended his hitting streak to eight games with a single in the first inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday. Yadier Molina later extended his hitting streak to eight games with a double in his second at-bat of the second inning.
Molina’s double scored Allen Craig for the seventh and final run scored in a monster second inning against James McDonald. It was his eighth run batted in this season.
Holliday went 2-for-5 with a run scored and drove in his tenth and eleventh runs on Monday. He is 9-for-28 with seven runs batted in during the streak. He has also recorded a hit in 11 of 12 games.
During the eight-game hitting streak, Molina is 11-for-33 with a home run and five runs batted in.
Molina received his fifth consecutive Rawlings Gold Glove award and second Platinum Glove award on Sunday. He currently ranks first among active National League catchers in career games, innings caught, assists, caught-stealing percentage and pickoffs.
