(KMOV) – A baby is dead and two people are in critical condition after a man passed out behind the wheel and crashed into a mother and her 8-month-old daughter in north St. Louis County on Monday.

According to officials, 41-year-old Larry Jones was traveling on eastbound Natural Bridge Road near Melba Road around 11:30 a.m. when he fell asleep at the wheel and crossed several lanes of traffic.

He then struck a woman, Erica Hughes, and her daughter, Alyja, who were at a nearby bus stop.

The child was taken to Children’s Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Jones and Hughes, 39, were transported to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in critical condition.

Family members of Jones  told News 4 he has a history of seizures and have been pleading with him to stop driving.

No charges have been filed at this time
